I'm Currently Reading...

The Sky is Falling by Raeanne Dumont
"Case studies of sufferers are presented, including a woman who experiences panic attacks in public places; a man terrified of driving over bridges; and a teenage boy who stops eating for fear of being poisoned. The last section gives pragmatic advice for recognizing fallacious thinking and setting both short-term and long-range goals to relieve these debilitating reactions. This book should also be quite helpful for those trying to aid someone with these problems."

The Catastrophist (by Roanan Bennett) is set in the Congo during its bid for independence from Belgium (circa 1960).

Water Park

I was doing some research on a water park near Philadelphia (we plan on going to Philadelphia in August) when I found a water park called Terry Hill Water Park. They advertise themselves as having "forty-three acres of splash-and-dive fun."

The only review I was able to find was by this bitter and bruised commentator. The title of his review: Wanna lose an arm?

"If you want the worst beating of your life then go to this place. At the end of the day you will have more blue in your skin than the water."

Harry Rosen for Prostate Cancer

Just came back from the Annual Harry Rosen Run for Prostate Cancer. Actually, I think Harry is against prostate cancer but you know what I mean.

Marsh did the 5 km walk portion of it and me and the kids went to the Grenadier Restaurant for brunch. It's been at least two years since we've been to High Park and one forgets just how great Toronto is for family outings. Brunch in the relaxed atmosphere of this basic but wonderfully located restaurant was a welcome break from the usual fast food crap I tend to go for.

And Marsh - finished the run in fine form. Unfortunately, I have no pictures because the old batteries (which were bought at a dollar store, costing me a $1 died after three frames...[let this be a warning to you dollar store fans!]) and the new batteries (bought a long time ago) also died. Did I just put parenthesis within parenthesis? Is this legal? Anyways, no pics...

Wounds

To D.G.

I have been wounded so often and so painfully,
dragging my way home at the merest crawl,
impaled not only by malicious tongues--
one can be wounded even by a petal.
And I myself have wounded--quite unwittingly--
with casual tenderness while passing by,
and later someone felt the pain,
it was like walking barefoot over the ice.
So why do I step upon the ruins
of those most near and dear to me,
I, who can be so simply and so sharply wounded
and can wound others with such deadly ease?
