Water Park

I was doing some research on a water park near Philadelphia (we plan on going to Philadelphia in August) when I found a water park called Terry Hill Water Park. They advertise themselves as having "forty-three acres of splash-and-dive fun."

The only review I was able to find was by this bitter and bruised commentator. The title of his review: Wanna lose an arm?

"If you want the worst beating of your life then go to this place. At the end of the day you will have more blue in your skin than the water."

Harry Rosen for Prostate Cancer

Just came back from the Annual Harry Rosen Run for Prostate Cancer. Actually, I think Harry is against prostate cancer but you know what I mean.

Marsh did the 5 km walk portion of it and me and the kids went to the Grenadier Restaurant for brunch. It's been at least two years since we've been to High Park and one forgets just how great Toronto is for family outings. Brunch in the relaxed atmosphere of this basic but wonderfully located restaurant was a welcome break from the usual fast food crap I tend to go for.

And Marsh - finished the run in fine form. Unfortunately, I have no pictures because the old batteries (which were bought at a dollar store, costing me a $1 died after three frames...[let this be a warning to you dollar store fans!]) and the new batteries (bought a long time ago) also died. Did I just put parenthesis within parenthesis? Is this legal? Anyways, no pics...

Wounds

To D.G.

I have been wounded so often and so painfully,
dragging my way home at the merest crawl,
impaled not only by malicious tongues--
one can be wounded even by a petal.
And I myself have wounded--quite unwittingly--
with casual tenderness while passing by,
and later someone felt the pain,
it was like walking barefoot over the ice.
So why do I step upon the ruins
of those most near and dear to me,
I, who can be so simply and so sharply wounded
and can wound others with such deadly ease?

Don't Disappear

Don't disappear. . . . By disappearing from me,
you will disappear from yourself,
betraying your own self forever,
and that will be the basest dishonesty.

Don't disappear. . . . To disappear is so easy.
It's impossible to resurrect one another.
Death drags down too deep.
Death even for a moment is too long.

Don't disappear. . . . Forget the third shadow.
In love there are only two. There are no thirds.
We both will be pure on Judgment Day,
when the trumpets call us to account.

Don't disappear. . . . We have redeemed sin.
We both are free of the law, we are sinless.
We are worthy together of the forgiveness of those
whom we have unintentionally wounded.

Don't disappear. . . . One can disappear in an instant,
but how could we meet later in the centuries ahead?
Is your double possible in the world,
and my double? Only barely in our children.

Don't disappear. . . . Give me your palm.
I am written on it--this I believe.
What makes one's last love terrible
is that it is not love, but fear of loss.

Jagjit is Coming! Jagjit is Coming!!

Jagjit Singh is indisputably one of the most talented artists of India. He received his musical training from the honorable Ustad Jamal Khan, and gained early recognition from his recordings at HMV and EMI India. In 1976, he and his wife, Chitra Singh, released The Unforgettable Ghazal Collection. This album set new sales records and has been followed by numerous ghazals as well as devotional albums, all of which have become classics.

Jagjitji's work has created a renewed interest in the art of Ghazal poetry and performance and has been heard in films and television releases. He has received several awards from both the music industry and from state governments, attesting to his popularity.
Jagjit Singh recently released his latest album "Soz" with lyrics penned by the legendary Javed Akhtar.

Jagjit Singh will be appearing at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto on April 30th.

Tell It Like It Is, Abe!

"This country belongs to the people and whenever they shall grow weary of their government they can exercise their constitutional right to amend it, or revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it."

H5N1

Yep! We've got it!
First the boy threw up, with no regard for place or timing.
Then, on the same day, the wife puked...quietly, she can be so genteel sometimes.
The baby, the girl, then proceeds to have a fever for a full week. Appetite was off, diarrhea was evidenced, many, many times.
Last but not least was dad himself. Nausea...but I fought off the up-chucking. Diarrhea, uh-hunh. Finally, lack of energy and dearth of enthusiasm for life. There were times when I wished I was a simple chicken or duck...just cull me...cull me to death!

Now...comes my cold. Dammit! I almost got away with a cold-less and flu-less winter. Is there any good reason to have kids? Those vectors of dirt and germs!
